Does your drama you bring to the table impact others more the higher up you get in your career? This was a great questions asked by a recent executive leader at one of my sessions that got me thinking. This podcast breaks down my thoughts on whether the impact of our personal drama as a higher-level leader in an organization is grander than our initial research has discovered.

In our research at Reality-Based Leadership, we found that your overall value that you bring to your work decreases greatly if you are high in emotional expensiveness or lacking fluency in what causes drama in an organization. In fact, the amount of drama has a 3x negative effect in comparison to your performance and your future potential when you look at the total value you are bringing to a team, organization, interaction or customer experience.

This -3x factor is quite an eye-opener for many who hear our work for the first time.

But in a recent session in NYC with an executive group, an attendee posed the question about whether as a CEO or high level leader that your drama could be even grander than that because of your influence and position in a company. Could it be -5x, -8x or even a -10x because so many are aware of your every move, comment and non-verbal. After all, you are the final decision point for your organization and many look to your leadership for guidance.

I had not considered this as an option so on the plane after the event I did some reflecting and put together this podcast.

So this is a great episode for anyone wondering about:

  • What is the effect of my drama as a leader on the organization
  • How to lead better with less drama
  • What is the cost of drama on high-level leaders
  • Conflict Resolution and understanding our part in solving issues

This really is something to consider and I can't wait to hear what you all think about this topic and my reflections. It really makes you think about each day and your influence especially for some of you who have a determined team working alongside you. Your influence if you are not bringing your highest self to the table could be an even grander cause of chaos in your workplace.
