Sokuzan leads us through "Opening The Eye Mind" Awareness practice, using as the artwork, "Cornered" by Philip Guston (born Phillip Goldstein, June 27, 1913 – June 7, 1980) . Guston was a Canadian American painter, printmaker, muralist and draftsman. In a career of constant struggle and evolution, Philip Guston emerged first in the 1930s as a social realist painter of murals in the 1930s.
