Ep 256: Religious Trauma with Sam Sellers
Manage episode 407951518 series 2789941
Welcome to this episode of SelfKind with Erica Webb (that’s me!) where I’m chatting with guest Sam Sellers about religious trauma.
Sam, a queer religious trauma therapist and clinical supervisor, shares with us her personal story around experiencing religious trauma and how she has navigated the impact of that on her life and identity.
Within this conversation is a discussion around the importance of questioning and understanding one's beliefs, the challenges of navigating personal identity and trauma, and the ongoing process of fostering self-trust.
About Sam:
Sam is a Registered Therapist and Clinical Supervisor, extending her expertise worldwide through online platforms, except for the US & Canada. Specialising in religious trauma, faith deconstruction, and supporting the LGBTQIA+ community, she passionately champions human rights and advocates for marginalised voices.
She shares her therapy space with Naya, her intuitive and sweet Cavoodle, who often joins her in sessions. Beyond her therapeutic role, she embraces her identity as a wife, fur mama, and friend, embodying the essence of compassion and empathy.
As a spirituality seeker and trashy TV aficionado, she brings a unique blend of warmth, relatability, and humour to her practice, believing wholeheartedly in the power of laughter for healing. Proudly part of the LGBTQIA+ community herself, she understands firsthand the importance of creating affirming spaces where everyone's story can be heard.
Additionally, she hosts two podcasts, "Inside the Therapy Room" and "Beyond the Surface" where she continues her mission of amplifying voices and stories, demystifying therapy and fostering understanding. She recently launched her eBook, ‘A Shattered Sanctuary: From Fellowship to Freedom’; which is her own story of loving and leaving the church interwoven into her Queerness.
Her mission is clear: to provide solace and support to those grappling with religious trauma and to empower individuals within the LGBTQIA+ community to reclaim their narratives and live authentically.
