In this episode, Sarah has a spontaneous, totally improvised, not at all planned conversation with pharmacist and improv comedian, Cory Jenks. Dr Jenks earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of South Carolina in 2011. He is an ambulatory care clinical pharmacy specialist, where he tries to talk people into healthy lifestyle choices instead of taking medications, which seems antithetical, but it all makes sense. Cory just celebrated his tenth improvaversary! YES, he coaches, teaches and performs improv, AND he also uses the principles of improv to teach healthcare professionals how to apply the valuable skills of improv to create a more adaptable, empathetic and humanizing healthcare experience. YES, AND also, he wrote a book about this very subject called Permission to Care. He is also a husband and dad of three kids under five and ten chickens. This episode was so much fun and Sarah’s only regret is that we didn’t talk about the chickens. Maybe next time, Cory?

[00:01:22] What's your title, anyway?
[00:04:17] Patient/client/customer care
[00:06:20] Talking to people is hard
[00:09:26] Hating things less through improv
[00:13:42] Feeling seen, heard and understood
[00:15:32] Reality is easier when you accept it
[00:17:30] Identifying the want is the game
[00:20:35] Just be honest with us corporate peeps
[00:23:17] Listening is everything
[00:26:21] Whose IV Line is it Anyway?
[00:31:35] It's COVID. Yes, And Cory writes a book!
[00:33:36] Improv is a need, not a want
[00:36:29] The struggle is real for all healthcare professionals
[00:39:37] It's just science!
[00:43:59] The reality is, this is absurd
[00:46:11] Bring Cory to save you all with improv
