In this original What the Dementia episode, we will discuss the often-asked question, "How do I get my person to believe they have dementia?" We offer a perspective on why convincing someone of their dementia diagnosis may not be necessary or beneficial and share alternative approaches to introduce support without confrontation.

This episode will cover:

— The challenges and potential pitfalls of trying to convince someone they have dementia.

— Understanding why acceptance of the diagnosis may not always lead to acceptance of help.

— The concept of anosognosia and its impact on a person's awareness of their own deficits.

— Strategies for 'quiet help' that introduce support in non-invasive and respectful ways.

— The importance of preserving the relationship and quality of life over insistence on acknowledging the diagnosis.
