In this #StudentStory of the Transfer Nation podcast, we spoke with #Nontraditional and #StudentParent #TransferAlumnus, Keirra Scott. Keirra describes her incredible #TransferJourney after navigating hardship and multiple starts with her education. Keirra is now working towards her MBA at the University of Michigan after transferring from Henry Ford and completing her BA at UM. Keirra emphasizes the crucial importance of bridge programs as a previous student and now an advisor of the Transfer Bridges to the Humanities @ Michigan program (https://www.hfcc.edu/transfer-bridges). She speaks to how, after never feeling truly supported in her academic journey before HFCC, she was able to thrive and become heavily involved in making a difference once HFCC provided her with incredible opportunities.
Keirra has utilized her transfer path to impact incredible social change and has founded her own non-profit—United Detroit—which helped increase Detroit's voter turnout in the 2020 election by 1.3%! At HFCC, she was also involved in the African American Association, the Democracy Institute, and the Black Male and QUEENS Focus Group. She's also recently been recognized by the National Institute for the Study of Transfer Students (NISTS) as a 2021 Transfer Ambassador.
