#79- Mental Health and Masculinity (with Simon Rinne)
Manage episode 352426146 series 3279858
Happy Friday! I’m so excited to be getting back into our regular guest conversations this week. Today, we are joined by Simon Rinne from Mindful Men. Simon is a Social Worker and Podcast Host who is passionate about creating safe spaces for men to talk about their mental/emotional health. In this episode, Simon shares his experience with mental illness, toxic masculinity, and mindfulness. For over 20 years, he was living with OCD, depression, and anxiety but did not know what any of this meant or how to get help. Being a “man”, he was scared to open up about what he was going through because he feared what other people would think of him. When he went to seek therapy for the first time, his whole life changed as he was introduced to the idea of mindfulness. Simon turned this into a successful platform where he shares his story, helps other men become more emotionally aware, and promotes mindful practices and strategies. This conversation was super insightful and I hope it helps to improve the gendered constraints around emotional well-being.
