Assertive at Work & Life Q&A – Ep.6.0 (3.1)
Hosted by: L J
We all have at one time or another experienced bosses, colleagues, clients that were good, bad or indifferent and ranged from full on little Dictators’ to those that were lasse faire and didn’t seem to give two hoots to what you were doing – except when it came to looking good in front of their respective higher-ups.
Here follows a selection of the top follow-up questions for this Episode 3.0 specifically:

  1. I fear and worry that I'll take it too far...becoming aggressive rather than assertive. Can this be helped? (Tampa, Florida, USA)
  2. How do I treat people that are passive-aggressive in a constructive manner or in an assertive way? (Jacksonville, North Carolina, USA)
  3. Having never been assertive. How do I trust that I haven't misjudged the situation and the person? What if I'm wrong? Which would make me feel worse and less likely to try again. (Reykjavik, Iceland)
  4. I feel a constant battle of trying to be liked and the struggle of not wanting to be judged. This then leads me to catastrophize and imagining what they think of me and telling others. Help! (Bengaluru, India)
  5. How can I manage my own anxiety? I even panic just thinking of becoming assertive with another individual. (Houston, Texas, USA)
  6. I struggle to be assertive with people higher up the food chain for fear of the consequences to my career and just getting along. (Bridgend, Wales, UK)
  7. I am a person that is used to being passive-aggressive (I'm told). In general, is it a larger step for me to become more assertive in the workplace or anywhere really? (Adelaide, SA, Australia)
  8. As a woman, compared to men, if you are assertive you are labelled "bossy" or "look at you wearing the pants!" How can you counteract such stereotypes of men being seen as a "Leader" or "Go-Getter" vs Women as "B-word" or "difficult"? (Manhatten, NY, USA)
