In this episode of the Neuroscience Informed Christian Counseling podcast, we explore the critical responsibility of mandated reporting, especially for pastoral counselors, coaches, and lay leaders. Mandated reporting requires care facilitators to report any reasonable suspicion of abuse—whether physical, emotional, or sexual—without conducting investigations themselves. This legal and ethical duty is essential in protecting vulnerable individuals, such as minors and the elderly.
Within the NICC framework, this responsibility is deeply rooted in Christian principles, such as loving your neighbor (Mark 12:31) and caring for "the least of these" (Matthew 25:40). NICC training equips participants to handle these responsibilities while integrating foundational neuroscience and theology, ensuring that trainees practice under proper supervision and within legal guidelines.
