#211: Is 4 Better Than 400?
Manage episode 364691971 series 2921205
Today we are talking about diminishing returns in the context of how we respond to novel situations in our environment. For the discussion we used a few recent law enforcement examples to highlight the fact that simply sending more people or spending more money not only doesn’t solve the problem but can actually make the situation worse.
During the episode we bring up a few scientific principles from the software development and computer industry to explain how there are basic mathematical and computational principles that we can use to create more effective and more efficient procedures. We also talk a little bit about how the bystander effect really works and how it can be a really bad or really good thing depending on the actions of specific individuals at the scene.
