Topics Covered:
02:21 - The biggest challenge that people face as they age with regard to staying fit, well, and positive: The biggest challenge is more mental than physical. I think there's a lack of recognition as to how much our lifestyle and our diet have changed just over maybe the last couple of decades of their lives.
04:50 - The common mistakes or misconceptions that people have about solving the problem of living a healthy life: The common mistakes also are connected to misconceptions about health and wellness in general. I have many people come to me and say, "Well, it's just my age and I'm just getting older, I guess I have to live with this," or the feeling that they have no control over their health any longer that they have to, you know, like, the doctor may be consulted with a prescription or treat a symptom or they have to go somewhere else, then
07:24 - The number one tip; a tangible specific action that people could implement right away: Not listen to the "white noise" on the news, to make sure that they just tune that out, and then to just give some thought to how their lives have changed. Are they more sedentary? Could they take a walk once a day? Could they go even 10 minutes a day to take a walk?
Takeaways:
“We have a lot more control over our health and wellness beginning, again, with our mental abilities.” - Carol D’Anca
“I like to defocus on age somewhat because these conditions are not just because of age, it's because of the subtle changes that have happened with our food over the last 25 years and our lifestyle that we adapt to, and then we don't realize the toll that it's taking on our lives, such as eating out more in restaurants, or making it more of a daily habit for some people, or just being less active over the years, and how our food supply, just even going to the grocery store, all the myriad of choices that we have, and most of it is just marketed with some very slick marketing that it really isn't good for us.” - Carol D’Anca
“It's proven with good solid research, that about 25% of disease is due to genetics, and 75% of disease is due to lifestyle.” - Carol D’Anca
“We can just succumb to our genes and let them play out, or we can work with our genes through our lifestyle and how we eat. And, you know, that is a major. If we could just get that, again, that mental feeling and understanding about the difference between genetics and our health.” - Carol D’Anca
“Buy foods without a label. There was a time not too long ago in our history, there were no labels on foods. And once you start having to read labels, then you're talking about ingesting processed food.” - Carol D’Anca
“Make sure it's from the right plant, not a manufacturing plant. From the soil!” - Carol D’Anca
