However, it is clear in her gospel that there is so much more to Mary than the Church has made out. Not only was Mary Magdalene the closest disciple to Jesus who received the most spiritual teachings, but in her gospel it is also clear that she was regarded as a spiritual leader in her own right, amongst the other disciples after Jesus' crucifixion.
