27-year-old Kai Luan was diagnosed with #osteosarcoma his junior year of high school, and underwent a right below-knee amputation after multiple rounds of chemotherapy.
A born athlete, Kai initially stopped pursuing athletics for several years after his amputation, until college when his friend let him try out his road bike.
Since that day, Kai has never looked back and recently placed 1st in his category (C4) and 4th overall out of all paracyclists at the 2023 USA Cycling eSports Paracycling Nationals!
An attorney by day and a cyclist, climber and volunteer coach in his free time, Kai hopes to increase visibility for adaptive sports and encourage others to try new things.
With a custom cycling leg fit by his long-time prosthetist Tom O’Doherty at the #HangerClinic in Chicago, IL, Kai is always prepared for his races and thankful to the team for their great care.
If anyone has questions about how to get into adaptive cycling or rock climbing, he’s happy to help. A humble and determined athlete, Kai’s 2023 goal is to keep pushing himself as far as he can. KEEP GOING, KAI! #LiveEmpowered
