Tennis Elbow Darien vs Golfers Elbow New Canaan
Tennis elbow and golfer's elbow are both types of overuse injuries that affect the tendons in the forearm. While they share some similarities, they involve different areas of the arm and affect different tendons. Here's a breakdown of the differences:

  1. Tennis Elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis):
    • Location: Tennis elbow primarily affects the outer part of the elbow, where the tendons of the forearm muscles attach to the bony prominence (lateral epicondyle) on the outside of the elbow.
    • Tendons involved: The extensor tendons, responsible for extending the wrist and fingers, are primarily affected. Specifically, the extensor carpi radialis brevis tendon is often involved.
    • Causes: Tennis elbow is typically caused by repetitive wrist and arm movements, particularly those involving gripping and twisting motions. Despite its name, it can be caused by various activities and not just tennis.
  2. Golfer's Elbow (Medial Epicondylitis):
    • Location: Golfer's elbow affects the inner part of the elbow, where the tendons of the forearm muscles attach to the bony prominence (medial epicondyle) on the inside of the elbow.
    • Tendons involved: The flexor tendons, responsible for flexing the wrist and fingers, are primarily affected. Specifically, the pronator teres and flexor carpi radialis tendons are often involved.
    • Causes: Golfer's elbow is typically caused by repetitive wrist and forearm motions, particularly those involving gripping and flexing motions. Activities like golfing, throwing, or swinging a racquet can contribute to this condition. However, it can also occur due to other repetitive movements, not limited to golf.
