I decided to check out the new limited series on Netflix “Maid.” I typically would just breeze right past shows like this because it looked like it would be a “slow” show where it took a long time to get to the point.
I wrote everything I could to share my thoughts and feelings about the accurate depiction of a single mother, the caregiver role, the human service worker role, domestic violence victim role and the once a recipient of government assistance role.
Key takeaways in this episode;

  • What domestic violence is.
  • The cycle of government assistance.
  • What motherhood is really like and the sacrifices we make.
  • Signs of abuse.
  • The characters and their role in "Maid"

Overall this was the most relatable show I have seen. Maybe not in every area, but a lot of Alex’s story reminds me of myself and people I have helped and know personally.

What I want you to take away from this episode is that there is help if you are or know someone who is a victim of domestic violence, someone who needs mental health help, someone who needs medical, food, financial, housing, employment and legal assistance.

The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence states; “1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience severe intimate partner physical violence, intimate partner contact sexual violence, and/or intimate partner stalking with impacts such as injury, fearfulness, post-traumatic stress disorder, use of victim services, contraction of sexually transmitted diseases, etc.” https://ncadv.org/
