This may seem like the opposite of click bait, BUT it's so important that it can't be covered in even a few hour-long episodes. Everyday I am dealing with or trying to uncover this communication breakdown between patients and their doctors. There's some sort of stigma when it comes to talking about the difficult topics with people's doctors. And from this side of the coin, doctor's think patients actually understand them clearly when they quite clearly don't. Everyone doesn't feel comfortable discussing certain health topics or even asking their doctor's difficult or even may simple questions.
This episode is a very recent example of how we doctor's can screw up and stereotypically fill the ego role that gets in the way of the relationship with a patient truly being healthy and where the patient wins and the doctor feels fulfilled with the purpose of helping them.
I'm always learning from patient's and am reminded to slow down and listen more than I speak.
