Join the conversation with Ben Alldridge, a multifaceted photographer and former marine biologist turned software engineer and space weather enthusiast. Originally from Brisbane but now residing in Launceston, Tasmania (lutruwita), Ben shares his unique journey into landscape photography, inspired by Tasmania’s breathtaking scenery. Known for his spontaneous 750km drives in pursuit of perfect skies—whether clear or stormy—Ben combines his love for both art and science in his work.

In this episode, Ben discusses the launch of his first photography calendar, the evolution from film to digital in his 20-year career, and the influence of his marine biology background, particularly in projects involving biofluorescence. His approach to photography is both playful and purpose-driven, with a strong emphasis on storytelling, goals, and conservation. Ben also reflects on the balance between creativity and science, competition strategies, and the complexities of commercial work. With his signature sarcasm and eclectic interests, including music journalism and a peculiar fondness for vanity basins, Ben offers a refreshingly unconventional perspective on capturing the natural world.

I hope you enjoy the show!
