Dr. Barry Raphael is an orthodontist who has adopted a new approach to mouth health. Influenced by a book written by Dr. Herman Ramirezwho points out that the position of the tongue, a soft tissue, is able to change the shape of the face, affect teeth growth, airway development and sleep habits. Dr. Raphael emphasizes the prevention of crooked teeth and the use of airway-focused techniques which he now uses in his practice, including: Myobrace, ALF, Biobloc Orthotropics, Myofunctional Therapy, Breathing Re-Patterning and other techniques to change human habits. DRaphael, (Rayfill) who is an integrative or holistic orthodontist who’s been in private practice for 33 years. In his 27 year he changed the character of his practice to address airway and myofunctional (muscle habit) issues regarding teeth health, which was influenced by a book he read by Herman Ramirez, another orthodontist who authored a book where he points out that the position of the tongue, a soft tissue, is able change the shape of the face, affect teeth growth, affect airway development and sleep habits.
Dr. Raphael wants this transition in thinking that he has adopted to be the new model for how the profession of orthodontics should prioritize the treatment of the patient which is to address the habits not the just teeth or the beauty of the teeth. In other words, addressing the overall health of the patient.
