In the latest episode of the Empowerography Podcast, my guest is Lisa Benson. Lisa Benson is a self-diagnosed recovering perfectionist who spent five years writing her multi-award winning memoir, Where Have I Been All My Life? During this time, she lived part time on a boat on Sydney Harbour which she found to be a peaceful and inspirational space for her writing. Lisa and her husband continue to lead a ‘double life’ travelling between Newcastle and Sydney each week. Lisa has a Bachelor of Business Degree with a major in tourism and marketing. She previously held various sales and marketing positions in hotels and resorts, and also worked in a real estate office. It wasn’t until Lisa was in her forties that she decided to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming an author, and she now writes full-time. Lisa’s motto is Stop Trying – Start Being although she spent most of her life doing the exact opposite. Her writing is honest and relatable, and she hopes her vulnerability helps others feel less alone. Lisa would love to inspire women to stop wasting time living up to other people’s expectations, to discover the magic of living an authentic life and to be free of self-imposed limitations. In this episode we discuss writing, conditioning, the power of storytelling, Where Have I Been All My Life? and vulnerability

In this episode you will learn:

1. That leading by example can be a someone else's permission slip to do the same.

2. How to deal with writers/creative blocks.

3. How being more vulnerable can lead to more authenticity.

"I think, a lot of people do write because they've struggled themselves and they want to share those things and help other people." - 00:04:05

"The advice that I would give about finding your voice is that it's unique to everyone. And it's, it is a process and it's just about getting that confidence and building that confidence little bit by little bit "- 00:16:54

"My why is to help others and to help others feel less alone. It's also to make people feel that they can be their authentic self and not have to live up to other people's expectations." - 00:46:07
