The world is an unpredictable place. One day you could wake up to the news that your organization’s reputation has been attacked in a review. Another day you could wake up to the news that one of your employees is accusing a member of the leadership team of misconduct. On a different day you could wake up to the news that there has been a massive data breach and all your customers’ sensitive information has been stolen. Not too long ago, we all woke up to the news that we were in the middle of a pandemic. If you’re in charge of an organization, large or small, it’s important to know that your reputation will be won or lost online.
From the largest Fortune 500 company to the smallest business with a staff of one, your reputation is at risk. That’s why I asked David Oates to be my guest on the Communication TwentyFourSeven Podcast. David possesses more than 25 years of strategic public relations experience dealing with a wide array of adverse public events. Starting as a U.S. Navy Public Affairs Officer and later as a Corporate Chief Marketing Officer and Non-Profit President, he excels in expertly addressing a myriad of crises that span military, government, corporate, charity, and start-up environments. His crisis communications experiences include handling employee and executive misconduct, cybersecurity attacks, product recalls, mass layoffs, large-scale accidents, criminal investigations, and civil litigation matters.
Take a listen as Jennifer Furlong and David Oates discuss the most common crises organizations typically encounter, and how to prepare for them, or even better, prevent them from happening.
