John Heers is the co-founder of an international aid organization, First Things Foundation, based off the Peace Corps model, that sends young people to five different countries to immerse themselves fully and completely in these cultures in order to attempt to offer genuine, humble, and meaningful aid to the people that need it most. In the course of his work, John has seen tremendous healing happen both in the individuals that commit themselves to this kind of work, and in the communities that his organization serves. John is also a seasoned Tamada, the head of the table at the Georgian supra (aka keipi). These lively feasts involve toasting, wine, and form deep, long-lasting bonds that are so uncommon in the modern age. Join Dr. James Mohebali for "Classic of Difficulties" first interview with John Heers, where we find profound answers about health, disease, and healing in some unexpected places. We learn about the healing potential inside of international aid work, both for the communities and for the aid workers, and about how coming to the communal table can create vulnerability, intimacy, and communion. Heal yourself, heal your marriage, heal your community—all while having fun with your friends!

"Classic of Difficulties: Difficult Questions in Medicine, Acupuncture, and Beyond" is a new podcast and YouTube channel by Dr. James Mohebali, doctor of acupuncture and Chinese medicine.
We try to ask difficult questions from both a philosophical and a practical perspective about medicine, health, alternative medicine, and everything in between. We hope to deepen the conversation about medicine, taking it beyond the questions of "what's good" and "what's bad," instead trying to figure out what philosophies and assumptions underlie our approaches to medicine, so that we can begin to understand what's really at stake when we think about our health and wellness.
