“I have sung to many audiences. I have sung in hobo jungles and I’ve sung for the Rockefellers. I’ve never refused to sing for anybody. That’s the only answer I can give. I’m proud I’ve sung for Americans of every political persuasion.” Pete Seeger. This week on Folk Process, host and singer-songwriter, Richard Beattie delves into the digital collection at Sound Century and plays excerpts from a concert that Pete Seeger did at Dartmouth in February 1957. What Seeger had to say about the Folk Process and "the thing that we make it," is rudimentary to sharing music. "Folk Music builds people up. It is accesible, honest and it is the epitome of both creative and critical thinking. As a minister, a leader and a communicator, original music is what scatters seeds to produce good fruit at home, through work and in community." Richard Beattie, Founder of Sound Century. On Legends953.com, I brought out excerpts from this concert as well as songs that are on the Legends playlist that were eithe "made up" by Pete Seeger or brought to light. We are a digital extention of what the Seeger family shares through their collection and through my friend and mentor Harry Tuft's archives. "These songs are my songs, these songs are your songs."
