Family caregiving is a cornerstone of the American healthcare system. According to data from the AARP and the National Alliance for Caregiving, there are an estimated 53 million family caregivers in the United States, providing care to adults and children with special needs. This number represents a substantial portion of the population, highlighting the importance of caregiving in our society.
November is National Family Caregivers Appreciation Month. In this episode, I explore the prevalence of family caregivers across the country, including how it differs among various ethnic and minority groups. I also discuss strategies to help caregivers manage the challenges they face, and how these challenges relate to systemic differences in aging with support in America.
