This Is Woman's Work with Nicole Kalil

In this episode, we delve into the concept of being "qualified" in the workplace, examining who gets labeled as such, who doesn't, and the underlying reasons. We explore "competency checking"—the practice of scrutinizing individuals' abilities—and how it disproportionately affects underrepresented groups, often going unnoticed or unchallenged. Our discussion aims to redefine qualifications in a fair, equitable, and actionable manner. Our guest, Shari Dunn , is an accomplished journalist, former attorney, news anchor, CEO, university professor, and sought-after speaker. She has been recognized as Executive of the Year and a Woman of Influence, with her work appearing in Fortune Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Ad Age, and more. Her new book, Qualified: How Competency Checking and Race Collide at Work , unpacks what it truly means to be deserving and capable—and why systemic barriers, not personal deficits, are often the real problem. Her insights challenge the narratives that hold so many of us back and offer practical solutions for building a more equitable future. Together, we can build workplaces and communities that don’t just reflect the world we live in, but the one we want to create. A world where being qualified is about recognizing the talent and potential that’s been overlooked for far too long. It’s not just about getting a seat at the table—it’s about building an entirely new table, one designed with space for all of us. This week’s episode is a special one! We are sitting down and talking to the director of the AZT bikepacking race John Schilling!! The first half of the show is more of a normal Like a Bigfoot Podcast as we dive into John’s history with bikepacking and designing amazing routes (like the Queen’s Ransom ride). In the second half of the show, co-host Thomas Mullins picks John’s brain for info about sections of the Arizona Trail that Thomas will be tackling on foot in April during Destination Trail’s Arizona Monster 300!! ….yes that’s right…300 miles of trail running through southern Arizona. It is the first year for the event and is looking to be beyond epic! Thomas and our friend Phil Pinti are both taking on this challenge, so there will be more episodes about this event coming up over the next few months. Enjoy!!…

This week we are chatting with Cyclist Steve Herschberger! Welcome to 2025 and to the new season of the Like a Bigfoot Podcast!! This week's episode is a very open discussion about a healthy mindset, the obstacles we face, and how to recover from trauma (both physical and emotional). Steve Herschberger is an extremely accomplished cyclist- having raced all over the world. A year ago he was hit by a driver in a hit and run, breaking half of his ribs, his collarbone, spine and neck. This episode is all about the comeback. What it takes to recover from some serious hard times life throws at you! Hope you all learn from and enjoy the conversation as much as I did!! HAPPY WINTER SOLSTICE!!! In honor of the shortest day of the year and the coldest season of the year, we are releasing two conversations with one of the coolest (literally) guys I've met, Ryan Wanless!! The first half is a conversation after Ryan survived the coldest Arrowhead 135 and the second half is years later after he completed the 1,000 mile Iditarod on foot!! Enjoy the episode!! Happy Holidays!!…
This week’s BIGFOOT REPLAY is with adventurer, polar explorer, environmentalist, Minnesotan, and wonderfully nice guy Paul Schurke!! Paul is a legend in the adventure world- completing multiple expeditions to the North Pole (including an unsupported trip in the 80s), dogsledding across Siberia (to convince the US and Soviet Union to open the Bering Strait to help out Inuit families), following in the footsteps of Teddy Roosevelt’s River of Doubt expedition in the Amazon, crossing South Georgia Island by the same route as Ernest Shackleton, and so much more.…
This week we are revisiting a conversation from 2019 with ultrarunning's absolute phenom Courtney Dauwalter!!
"That day, for no particular reason, I decided to go for a little run." - Forrest Gump I'm extremely excited to welcome Rob Pope, the real life Forrest Gump, to this week's show! Over the last few years, Rob has taken on the EPIC challenge of recreating Forrest Gump's famous run. Over 15,000 miles across the United States 5 times, he tested the limits of his own endurance and experienced the U.S. to the absolute fullest. Over his year and a half adventure he experienced highs and lows, received major support from strangers along the way, and ran through some of the most iconic places in the country. The human connections he made, along with the places he explored were life changing. Completing the challenge was absolutely unprecedented. Today's episode is all about this INCREDIBLE ADVENTURE. Rob shares how one of his last conversations with his mother about "Doing one thing that makes a difference in this world" inspired this challenge. He also chats about the adventures he had along the way, along with the obstacles he had to overcome (including a torn quadricep..yikes!). We also talk a lot about one of my favorite subjects....Tom Hanks! Please check out Rob's website. He would love your help supporting two excellent charities- Peace Direct and World Wildlife Fund. Enjoy!!
