Karen Lee shares her love of traveling and how it has shaped her life. She started traveling in her early 20s with friends, which gave her the confidence to eventually travel on her own. Karen emphasizes the importance of taking small steps and doing something within your comfort zone to build confidence. She also discusses the role of research and planning in travel, as well as the need to embrace unexpected curveballs. Karen shares her experiences of traveling with her children, the importance of not overthinking when packing. Highlighting the freedom and empowerment that comes with solo travel. Karen and Terri discuss the importance of not worrying about what others think when traveling alone, emphasizing that most people are too busy with their own lives to pay much attention to solo travellers. They also discuss the benefits of taking a book with you to keep yourself occupied and people-watching. They highlight the growing trend of mature women solo traveling and the anxiety that both men and women can feel when traveling alone for the first time. Karen shares her experience of exploring her own country, Scotland, and the self-discovery journey it provided. They also touch on the topics of NLP, hypnotherapy, and the importance of self-worth and self-belief.
Best moments:
"Traveling with friends gave me the confidence to eventually think, oh, maybe I can just do this on my own."
"Once you've done it once, there's no way you're not doing that again."
"The best laid plans can still go awry, but you survive the curveballs."
"Most people are too busy, you know, consumed in their own lives or, you know, they might glance over at you. They probably won't even, you know, they might glance over and think, oh, she's on her own. And then they go back to whatever they're doing. They're not thinking any more about it."
"Put a book on the table and pretend to read it if you like and people watch over the top of it."
"The 60 something % of mature women, so the men that are solo traveling these days. It's more women and it's more older women from like 50 up."
