Today, we’re talking the Judas Priest subliminal message controversy. In 1990, while on a US tour, the heavy metal band Judas Priest played a show in Reno, NV, where they were served a subpoena, seconds before going on-stage.

The allegations purported that there were subliminal messages in their song “Better by you, better than me”, messages that forced 2 young men to attempt suicide in 1985.

Our primary resource is the David Van Taylor's Dream Deceivers: The Story Behind James Vance vs. Judas Priest. This is a must watch documentary. The real life story would eventually inspire Garth Ennis to create the character Arseface in the Preacher comic book series.

This episode contains stories of suicide and other dark material. If you’re in crisis, there are options available to help you cope. You can also call the Lifeline at any time to speak to someone and get support. For confidential support available 24/7 for everyone in the United States, call 1-800-273-8255.
