]In 2008, Larry and Carri Williams, a fundamentalist Christian couple from Washington, adopted eleven-year-old Hana Alemu and seven-year-old deaf boy Immanuel from Ethiopia. But instead of providing a loving home, the parents subjected them to unimaginable abuse and neglect while sparing their seven biological children. Guided by the controversial Christian parenting book "To Train Up a Child," Hana and Immanuel suffered beatings, food deprivation, exposure to the elements, and isolation.
