In this episode of Off the Boards, sophomore running back Brandon Thomas joins us prior to the beginning of summer camp for 2022 Tiger football team.

Brandon was a surprise star at the running back position for the Tigers as a true freshman in the 2021 season. Brandon came out of the gate with a strong first three games of the season, but as the Tigers struggled through the middle of the season, Brandon also showed ebbs and flows in his first season as a starter.

In the first segment Brandon discusses coming to Memphis after experiencing a devastating hand injury. He shares his insight into the guts and resilience he showed to rehab through a near career ending injury. He explains the dark nights where he wondered if he would ever play football again, and how the Memphis staff kept in touch with him during his rehab. He explains how the birth of his daughter helped center him and made him realize how important being successful at football is now because he has more to take care of then just himself.

He transitioned to talk about coming to Memphis and realizing how deep the Tiger history is at the running back position. He shares how his dealing with the hand injury and fight to get back to playing helped motivate him to shine when he got his chance.

In the second segment Brandon shares some of the highs and lows he experienced during the 2021 season. He shares how devastating the concussions he experienced last year were to him because of how debilitating they were. He shares how these injuries were different than the hand injury because it wasn't just something you could fight through. He had no choice but to sit out. He mentions specifically how the Mississippi State game was a high for him because of the caliber of opponent and the efficiency of his production during that game.

Brandon goes into great detail about the running back room and how tight the guys are. He dreams of the play where all 7 of the productive running backs are out on the field together, and shares how selfless all the guys are with each other. None of the guys care who gets the run as long as they are being productive. His excitement was evident as he talks about the creativity that new offensive coordinator Tim Cramsey has shown during spring football. He believes the Tigers are ready to make big moves during this 2022 season.
