On this week’s show I’m honored and proud to bring you my conversation with an actor, producer and inspirational speaker whose story is one of the most inspiring you’ll hear. His name is Charles D. Clark. He’s appeared on such primetime TV hits as the Fox drama Empire, which co-starred Terrence Howard as hip-hop king Lucious Lyon, whose once-incarcerated ex-wife Cookie (played by Taraji P. Henson) aims to reclaim her piece of their music dynasty, and whose three sons - Jamal (played by Jussie Smollett), Hakeem (played by Bryshere Gray a.k.a. Yazz the Greatest) and Andre (played by Trai Byers) - compete to take over that dynasty from their legendary yet intimidating father. On Empire, Charles played the brutal enforcer/right hand man to Lucious Lyon’s friend and associate, Shyne (played by Xzibit). Empire is also where I and millions of fans - including an amazing online community called The Empire Addicts, of which I am a proud member - first became familiar with Charles’ incredible talent. Aside from Empire, Charles has also appeared on other popular shows like House of Cards and Power Book IV: Force, and in several true crime documentary series such as Relatively Evil, The Perfect Suspect, Who Killed Jane Doe?, Copycat Killers and What Really Happened. He’s worked in small independent films such as the psychological prison thriller Volkov Origin, which he also co-produced, plus big projects like Charm City Kings (co-produced by Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith), Harriet (starring Cynthia Orivo), and the Oscar-nominated biopic Rustin (starring Colman Domingo). Yet his success didn’t come without struggle, and from that struggle has now come a career - and a life - that he is incredibly proud of.
