It’s conference season, and there are many options. Are conferences worth your time and money? John DeLaurier shares how going to conferences is one of the best moves he’s made to sustain a profitable business. The key is to have intentionality behind the choice to attend a conference. Join Dave and John as they break down this topic with insight and expert advice about making the most of conference opportunities!

What you’ll hear in this episode:

  • Conferences: Are they a waste of time and a “cash grab”?
  • Like most opportunities, there are good conferences and bad conferences.
  • There are always gold nuggets to gain from each conference to move your business forward.
  • Are you a business owner or “just a roofer”? (Check your mentality and step out of your comfort zone!)
  • “The network IS your net worth.”
  • The biggest problem in attending conferences occurs when you don’t implement what you learn.
  • John’s take on upcoming conferences that are consistently high-quality and helpful:
  • For residential roofing contractors:
  • RoofCon, October 23-25 in Orlando, FL
  • The Roofing Process Conference, December 4-6 in Marco Island, FL
  • For commercial roofing contractors:
  • The IRE, February 19-21 in San Antonio, TX
  • Win the Storm Conference, March 14-16 in Dallas, TX
  • John’s best tips for getting the most out of a conference:
  • Go with intentionality to find answers to your biggest business problems.
  • Take notes on sessions and set up demos right then.
  • Go to the vendor section when the bulk of the crowd is NOT there.
  • It doesn’t matter what you learn at a conference unless you implement those things.
  • Find value in learning from others, being held accountable, and being coached/mentored.
  • John’s goal in attending conferences in 2024 and 2025
  • “What’s important is whatever moves the needle for your business.”
  • “If 2024 hasn’t been a great year for you, NOW is the time to make changes.”
