From noon on Friday 27 January, a group of cycling enthusiasts led by Jenni Green, the founder of the Bia cycling brand, set out to cycle from Land's End to John O'Groats within 24 hours.
The RG10 Podcast went along to the Bia Hub in Twyford to witness some of the high spirits, hard work and collective effort put into the charity event. Ben spoke to several participants, including Jenni herself and also Lee Goodwin, the owner of Velo Life, which has recently joined up with the Bia brand and has two further cycle workshop/cafes in Warren Row and Wargrave.
In the end 24 people took turns cycling for an hour at a time on several indoor KICKR bikes across 'real' National Cycle Network routes via the virtual cycling platform Wahoo RGT. There was plenty of support from friends and family, uplifting music and games - plus a further 126 cyclists taking part online around the world.
Together, the Kilometre Collective smashed the Land's End to John O'Groats target of 1916 km almost threefold, covering a total of 5210 km.
The event raised more than £2000 for three charities: Women in Sport, Mind and Qhubeka. To learn more about The Kilometre Collective or donate to their fundraising effort, visit https://biacycling.com/the-kilometre-collective.
