Ebony highlighted the difficulties she faced while in foster care. These struggles could include emotional and practical challenges, as well as feelings of displacement. Ebony was placed in special education during her school years. However, she excelled academically, leading her to question whether she truly belonged in that program. Renaldo and Ebony discussed Dr. Umar Johnson’s assertion that many Black children are disproportionately placed in special education. Ebony also talked about her move from Philadelphia to the small town of Williamston. Adjusting to a new environment can be both exciting and challenging.
