My special guest on this episode of The Music Mind Podcast is a life long student of the trumpet, a qualified lawyer, and a current co-owner of one of the most famous custom brass instrument mouthpiece making businesses in the world based in Los Angeles, USA.
John Snell has hosted the acclaimed Other Side of the Bell trumpet podcast for over 10 years during which time he has interviewed some of the most iconic and legendary trumpet players in the history of the instrument.
In this conversation John discusses highly valuable topics including dealing with stage fright, how little air is required to play a brass instrument and what it takes to make a living as a professional musician in the highly competitive Los Angeles music scene. We get to hear extracts from John's many podcast conversations with world-class trumpet players including the iconic Doc Severinsen, Chris Botti, Paul Panici, Chuck Findley, Jerry Hey and Jim Manley.
Finally viewers get to see and hear John perform a beautiful duet on trumpet and flugel horn with Brian Hayes on soprano saxophone playing a contemporary instrumental version of John Lennon's gift to the music world, the timeless 'Imagine'.
