Dr. Anne-Imelda Radice, Director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), recently announced that 907 U.S. museums, libraries, and archives have been selected to receive the IMLS Connecting to Collections Bookshelf. Of the 907, 13 are located in South Carolina; Mr. Dan Mackey has recently been elected to chair the South Carolina State Library Board of Trustees; The President's Volunteer Service Award and USA Freedom Corps have recognized the Oconee County Friends of the Library in appreciation of the group's commitment to strengthening the Nation and for making a difference through volunteer service; Brianna Murray, a 10th grade violin major at The Charleston School of the Arts, has qualified for the National Braille Challenge Finals in Los Angeles, California; This edition's featured web site is the South Carolina Center for the Book located at www.sccenterforthebook.org; The Lion's Roar is now highlighting new South Carolina book titles; On Wednesday July 8, 2009, from 10am to 3pm, the DISCUS staff will sponsor a free training session titled, Introduction to DISCUS.
