Social media has changed thew world we live in, but it isn't always for the better. In some cases, it can lead to the disintegration of mental health, and negatively impact lives.

Kevin's special guest this week is Mayah Riaz, the founder of Social Media Kindness Day, which aims to establish the message that social media should be a place where people can socialise, network, do business, and live 'their best life' without fear of negativity.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Many assume that celebrities are guarded, and live a glamorous, unobstructed existence, but there is a darker side.
  • Social media does not represent the way we interact in real life. People feel empowered to express their most negative opinions without fear of reprisals, which leads to a huge negative impact.
  • Celebrities are somehow seen as "fair game" because they have dared to take a profession that puts them in the spotlight. But we must remember that celebrities are people, too.
  • News has become less of a service, and more of a business. It trades in clicks and advertisements, and unfortunately, the more salacious the headline, the larger the number of clicks. This has led to a breeding ground for baseless, hurtful news.

BEST MOMENTS

'There's a darker side to the industry and what the talent have to put up with' - 4:14

'The worse the argument gets, the more engagement it gets' - 9:17

'I like to think that one day we can have threads of kindness' - 21:16

'It's the adrenaline or addiction to social media we have' - 39:53
