According to published reports, Acting Police Chief James Behre spoke at a Bloomfield Municipal meeting and complained that Bloomfield Councilman Bernard wanted to allow two Hispanic officers to take the sergeant's examine early. The acting chief also alleged that Councilman Bernard wanted a ticket fixed in order to solidify his position as police chief. Acting Chief Behre has asked the city administration to call for an investigation by the Attorney General's Office of New Jersey. Less than 48 hours later he was placed on administrative leave and allegedly has been scheduled to take a psychological examination to determine his fitness for duty. Is this action by the city administration an effort to obtain the truth and protect the citizens of Bloomfield, or is it an act of retaliation and an effort to hide the truth by discrediting the person making a complaint?
