Top Tips for getting over Trust Issues
1.Endurance: God sees the pain and suffering we experience due to how people have betrayed our trust. God sees. But he expects us to endure these situations and come out strong. If we pray and ask Him for help, God gives us the strength to overcome the hurts of broken trust.
2. Trust God: It gets to stage where we have built up so many walls to point that you cant even trust your Heavenly Father. God is the only one in the universe that can be fully trusted. He keeps his promises to us if we ask Him. When we learn to trust God, the door opens for us to trust others. It is better to trust in God rather than men (Psalm 118:8).
3.Forgive: Forgiveness helps us to let go of the wounds and pain. We may be tempted to hold a grudge and seek revenge, but retaliating will hurt us more in the long run than hurt them.
4.Talk about it: If you think you’ve forgiven someone and then someone mentions their name but you immediately feel angry, you’ve probably not forgiven them and you need to talk about it. The day you’re able to genuinely hold a conversation with them- that’s when you’ve made progress. Without this step, you’ll just be stuck in resentment, unforgiveness and bitterness.
5.Take your time: It takes some time to rebuild trust and re-establish a relationship, even the Bible says that someone who has been offended is harder to win than a strong city (Proverbs 18:19). Make sure you love the person with love that God has extended towards you because that actually helps us to get through the pain.
6. Pray for them: The Bible tells us in Matthew 5:44 to love our enemies and to pray for those who persecute us. When you are able to pray for someone who has hurt you, you can face anything. It won’t come easily but through the help of the Holy Spirit our comforter, we will eventually be able to do it.
7. Guard your heart: Proverbs 4:23 encourages us to guard our heart because every we do is a result of what is in our heart.
E.g. Bitterness in our hearts = Hostile relationships
8. Trust again: In order to get over the emotional pain and mental distress a betrayal has caused you, you need to trust again. Yes, you need to risk putting yourself through the pain again in order to realise that not everyone is the same.
