Music historian, Ron Drummond, gives us some background information concerning his upcoming lecture/concert with members of the Town Quartet at the Musical Offering Cafe In Berkeley, September 26th, at 7pm. On the program is the Reicha string trio, Pavel Wranitzy string trio op. 17 no. 1, and a Pichl duo for viola and cello. Ron talks extensively about these composers and the classical period in general. Beethoven comes up a lot. Bach and his sons come up as well. He does a whole spiel on Mozart and Mysliveček. This is a long one! Here's some links and composer info from Ron:Here’s a direct link to the free downloadable PDF of my 5,000-word booklet essay, “Introducing Anton Reicha’s Vienna String Quartets" from the Toccata Classics CD, Anton Reicha: The Complete String Quartets, Volume One: https://d2vhizysjb6bpn.cloudfront.net/TOCC0022-cd-notes.pdfAnd there is the link to the PDF of my essay "Anton Reicha’s Vienna String Quartets: Volume Two”:https://d2vhizysjb6bpn.cloudfront.net/TOCC0040-cd-notes.pdfHere is a link to the NY Times article on Reichahttps://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/07/arts/music/anton-reicha-ivan-ilic-beethoven.htmlAnd a link to my short essay “Czech Classicism: The Sweat of the Brow” http://www.classical.net/music/comp.lst/articles/reicha/quartets/appendixc.phpHere is a link to “The Tokyo String Quartet Performs” on Classical Net:http://www.classical.net/music/recs/reviews/drummond/tokyosq1.phpVariant spellings:Vaclav Pichl / Wenzel Pichl / Wenzel Pichel (1741-1805)Pavel Vranicky / Paul Wranitzky / Pavel Vranitzky (1756-1808)Antonin Rejcha / Anton Reicha / Antoine Reicha (1770-1836)
