If you’re a long time listener of this show, you know we tend to get pretty conceptual with our advice. Well this week we’re doing the opposite, and Kevin’s got a new rule that’s simpler and more effective than ever.

Before we get to that, though, Matt kicks things off with a continuation of his discussion from last week’s after-show chat. Have you ever wondered when and where the highest concentration of diarrhea on US soil was? Me neither. But Matt’s got some theories.

Then, Kevin delivers his new golden rule: do one thing a day that you don’t have to. There’s probably a lot of tasks in your life that are far from pressing, and that you really don’t want to do in the first place – but we’re here to tell you to GET THEM DONE. We talk about the importance of a clean room, the extreme conditions of Hoarders, and Matt’s latest woodworking woes.

After that, Kevin gets one of his latest gripes off his chest, and it couldn’t be a better example of what we’re talking about here. He’s noticed an astounding lack of light switch covers in houses lately, on TV or otherwise, and he can’t help but ask – what’s stopping you from getting one? We talk about the ease of a lot of these tasks, and the shocking reality of the “you live like this?” meme.

Matt highlights the slog that comes with working on something, even if you’re passionate about it. We talk about the writer’s aversion to writing, the grind of making YouTube content, and where the payoff really fits in to all of it.

We round out the episode by emphasizing that you don’t really know the importance of doing a task until you actually DO IT. From wearing safety glasses to changing a license plate, or even writing a compelling “wacky neighbor” in a sitcom – you just don’t know what the risk/reward is going to be until you actually do the thing.

Thanks to everyone who joined us live this week, and a special shout out to each and every one of our patrons – you really make this show happen. We’ll be back again next week!
