Adopted Leitrim man Charlie McGettigan joins Breifne Earley this week to talk all things musical, Eurovision Song Contest victory, the changing face of the live music scene in Ireland over the years, learning his trade playing seven nights a week as a teenager in Bundoran. He talks to Breifne about the importance of telling a story through his lyrics, landing his first record deal at the age of 65, working with and being influenced by some of the greats of Irish music. He opens up about the heartbreak of losing his son Shane in a workplace accident and the loss of his brother Declan to the influence of drink and drugs. Offering his advice to anyone interested in succeeding in the world of music Charlie imparts his decades of experience throughout the show which also includes a few live performances along the way.
