Dr. Jennifer Glass (https://liberalarts.utexas.edu/sociology/faculty/jg47972) joins us to talk about the disproportionate hit mothers have taken in pay during the pandemic. She gets into variables, largely determined by an utter lack of social insurance and sectors that don’t really protect workers in general. She also cites the last several decades of decline in the delivery of educational systems as major factors. Questioning our low fertility rates and how they’re related to national financial insecurity, she looks to more prosperous countries not as wealthy as the U.S. Dr. Jennifer Glass is the Centennial Commission Professor of Liberal Arts in the Department of Sociology and Research Associate in the Population Research Center at the University of Texas, Austin. Her work has appeared in the American Journal of Sociology, American Sociological Review, Social Forces, Journal of Marriage and the Family, Journal of Health and Social Behavior, and Demography, among others.
