On this week’s episode Melissa Scheetz opens up about her professional ballet career, getting injured during Nutcracker, and the struggle to survive in a dance company with no health insurance. Melissa is a graduate from the University of Utah where she completed a Masters in Exercise and Sport Science. She had the privilege to work with dancers from Ballet West Academy's Trainee Program for her Masters research project where she focused on how help the dancers increase the awareness of their footwork through specific exercises. Most recently, Melissa has completed the Progressing Ballet Technique training with Marie Walton-Mahon in New York City. Prior to attending graduate school, Melissa completed a Bachelors in Finance and was employed in the management and accounting fields for a number of years. It was during this time that she realized how much she missed dance, more specifically ballet. Melissa was very fortOn this week’s episode Melissa Scheetz opens up about her professional ballet career, getting injured during Nutcracker, and the struggle to survive in a dance company with no health insurance. Fortunate to have had the opportunity to perform with The Tallahassee Ballet under the direction of Joyce Straub and Kathryn Cashin. The experiences of performing with the company aided in her decision to return to school to focus on a course of study that would be beneficial in working with dancers. Ultimately, her goal is to become a Physical Therapist and help dancers have careers they can say are fulfilling, enjoyable, and less impacted by injuries.
