-------

Alex (@Alexgoldmund) returns to the show to talk about the state of podcasting in 2024, and why podcasters and producers are now facing similar tensions with tech platforms as musicians.
Alex, who was a podcaster and producer at Gimlet, talks about the 'golden age' of podcasting in the 2010s, when venture capital and mattress advertising was able to sustain unique, experimental shows with dedicated audiences, and how that declined as a result of algorithmic gaming, platform's vying for IP, and of course, pivoting to video. Alex also talks about his transition to independent production, and what the future of podcasting might look like as platforms like Spotify continue to defund their dedicated divisions.
