Radio Sweden reporter Firas Jonblat followed four Syrian friends as they tried to reach safety "on the other side", in Europe. Their journey went via Turkey, which is where Jonblat first met the four refugees - Hatem, Muhanad, Yazan and Mahmoud - back in April. He then kept in touch with them during their numerous risky attempts to make it to Europe. Fortress Europe is a series of reports about some 70 Syrian refugees' paths to and within Europe. Swedish Radio has worked in collaboration with the EBU to follow these refugees, whose stories you can find at sverigesradio.se/fortresseurope/en.
