Strapping on your boots for a tech job hunt? Hear it from a fellow engineer who has been through the trenches. This episode is a treasure trove of insights and advice that will not only prepare you for coding interviews but also help you prioritize your resume, bringing into focus your unique strength that the tech industry needs. I'll share my personal journey and experiences dealing with mental health and disabilities in tech, attempting to break the stigma and emphasizing that these don’t make anyone less of an engineer.
Ever wondered why comfortable attire is the dress code for tech interviews? Or why people switch jobs not because they are bad but due to bad bosses and poor management? We'll address these and explore the power dynamics in the tech industry. We'll also dive into the art of authentic networking, and I'll share the advice that changed my perspective: be interested more than interesting. It's not about a superficial nod but about forging real connections and relationships.
In the current remote job scenario, we'll cover how to shine a spotlight on your human side in addition to your accomplishments. I'll share tips on navigating job applications and the importance of persistence in the face of adversity. We'll also touch base on understanding the bigger picture of data science, stressing that it's okay not to know every intricate function. This episode is dedicated especially to my fellow engineers who are currently out of work, reminding you it's okay to take a step back and not get too engrossed in job applications. After all, we're all in this together!
