William Lai’s election as the next Taiwanese president has not gone down well with China which has said he doesn’t represent the choice of the masses. So what does it mean for China-Taiwan relations that are already under considerable strain?
China will continue its policy of harassment against Taiwan; coercion and intimidation will be the norm and could be a little bit more intensive, I-Chung Lai, President of Prospect Foundation, a Taiwanese think-tank, told StratNews Global Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale.
Another Taiwanese analyst — Lin Fei-fan, Director of the Board, New Frontier Foundation — who joined in the discussion said China played a role in amplifying fake news spread by Opposition parties that Taiwan would open up its labour market to Indian workers, an issue on which the Taiwanese government has not taken a final decision yet.
