Pete Rose, in my opinion, one of the greatest baseball players ever died recently. Pete Rose was my boyhood hero. I loved him and loved the Big Red Machine–the Cincinnati Reds.
Hi, I am Allen Burris with a short message for you.
Pete Rose was called Charlie Hustle, and I wanted to be like him. When I was 11, our little league team won the championship, and I received The Hustle award. It was a highlight of my youth.
As time went on, I was disappointed to learn of Pete’s flaws and mistakes, but it did not, in my mind, diminish his amazing baseball abilities. It, however, did provide perspective–one that is important to me. There is no perfect person. Be careful about idolizing people.
Psalm 20:7 says, “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.”
Today, some trust in politicians, presidents, preachers, pop stars, and popular influencers.
I say, learn from them; take what is good. But be careful.
There is only One Who deserves whole-hearted trust and allegiance, and His name is Jesus.
