AM Edition for July 19

Today’s scripture from Deuteronomy 5:24 reminds us of God's primary purpose in all His works: to display His glory. Our theme for this morning is the revelation of God's glory through the trials and tribulations we face in life.

The devotional today encourages us to recognize that God's glory is often revealed in our lives through difficult and trying circumstances. It is in these moments of weakness and helplessness that we become most aware of our need for God's intervention and majesty. Those who face life's storms and navigate its deep waters come to understand the power and wonder of Jehovah more profoundly than those who experience only smooth and easy paths.

Key Points:

  1. God's Glory in Trials: God's main purpose in all His works is to display His own glory. To fully perceive this, our self-importance must be set aside. God often leads us into difficult situations so we become aware of our own foolishness and weakness, thus ready to witness His majesty when He intervenes.

  2. Understanding Through Hardships: Someone whose life is always smooth and easy will see little of the Lord's glory. Those who navigate small streams and shallow waters know little of the God of storms, but those who "do business in great waters" see His "wonders in the deep." It is through vast waves of loss, poverty, temptation, and scorn that we learn the Lord's power because we feel our own smallness.

  3. Praise for Rough Roads: Thank God for leading you down a rough road. It is this journey that has given you your experience of God's greatness and lovingkindness. Your troubles have enriched you with knowledge that cannot be gained any other way. Your trials have been like the cleft in the rock where the Lord placed Moses, allowing you to see His glory as it passed by.
