Listen to the questions that you are asked. Answer those questions, openly, and without trying to conceal anything. Be honest. (Consular officers are not mind-readers, and they don’t know what you may be concealing, but they can often tell that you are concealing something. Then they will presume the worst about your plans.) If, for example, your neighbor from your youth is going to college in San Francisco, and you’re applying for a visa to visit Florida, if you are asked “do you know anyone in the United States” tell the officer about your ex-neighbor. And that he’s in San Francisco, and you don’t expect to see him in Florida. Don’t conceal any relatives living in the US, again, tell the truth if asked. Remember, the worst that will happen is you won’t get a tourist visa. So what? Other countries have great scenery, and amusement parks, and interesting cities. Not getting a tourist visa isn’t a life or death matter. But if you act like it is, and conceal facts, you’ll likely fail your interview.
