第017回 Lesson 8 「不定詞、とりわけto不定詞（トゥーフテーシ）！」

今日から、準動詞に入ります。
文章の土台となる５文型には、S＋Vが必ず入ってまして、
このV（動詞）は述語動詞とも呼ばれ、動詞としての役割のみです。

それに対して、今回扱うto不定詞（to+動詞の原型）のような準動詞は、
その動詞としての役割のほかに、名詞や形容詞や副詞の役割を兼ねる動詞となります。
ですので、
不定詞には名詞的用法、形容詞的用法、副詞的用法があり、
その名の通り、不定詞の名詞的用法なら、
名詞の働き（文の主語か、動詞や前置詞の目的語か、補語になる）を兼ねる動詞となります。
注意したいのは、不定詞は当然動詞としての役割も残りますので、
その動詞が他動詞ならその後に目的語を取ります。
とはいえ、準動詞はあくまで準動詞ですので、５文型のVにはなれません。
その代わりに、名詞的用法ならば、名詞として文章の主語（S）や目的語（O）や補語（C）になることはあります。

具体的な例文を見ていきましょう。
To play tennis is fun.　テニスをすることは楽しい。
to playがto不定詞の名詞的用法で、主語になっています。
tennisは、to不定詞のplayが元々他動詞になれる動詞なので、to playの目的語です。
名詞的用法が補語になるケースと目的語になるケースも紹介します。

My plan is to study art in Paris.（補語）
I hope to see her again.（目的語）

不定詞の形容詞的用法は補語にはならず、名詞の後ろについて、
その名詞を修飾します。
I need something to drink.
I want friends to talk with.←talkが自動詞なので、withという前置詞がつくケース。

不定詞の副詞的用法
My brother saved money to buy a new car.

（ユッスー）Excuse me, do you know where the concert hall is?
（Nobuo）Sure, you can go straight, and then turn right at the end of this street.
（ユッスー）Thank you very much. It’s nearer than it seems.
（Nobuo）There is a police box there, so please ask there.
（ユッスー）Oh my gosh! You have no idea where the concert hall is! 交番だったのかよ！
